Description
Sectioned cranial anatomy frames the orbital contents, with the frontal bone forming the superior orbital rim, the maxilla contributing to the orbital floor and alveolar process with maxillary teeth, and the sphenoid bone shaping the posterior orbit. Within the globe, the choroidal venous plexus converges into the vorticose veins (vena(e) vorticosa(e)), arranged in a radial pattern and coursing posteriorly toward the sclera, typically grouping into superior and inferior vortex systems. Periorbital vessels and selected neural elements track along the orbital walls toward the apex, where the superior orbital fissure and optic canal would sit just posterior to the globe. Emphasis on the vorticose veins matters because they represent the dominant outflow of the choroid and form a recognizable landmark when teaching uveal circulation alongside the central retinal vein.
