Viewed from an anterior, dorsal perspective beneath transparent skin, the talus sits superior to the calcaneus and distal tibia, with the navicular and cuneiforms stepping distally into the metatarsals and phalanges. Along the dorsum, the extensor hallucis longus tendon runs toward the hallux, while the extensor digitorum longus tendons fan distally to digits two through five, crossing the ankle anterior to the tibiotalar joint. Lateral to these slips, extensor digitorum brevis and extensor hallucis brevis form a low muscular belly over the superolateral midfoot, just distal to the calcaneus. Bony contours dominate.
