Description
Viewed from the front, the maxillary dental arch is presented with the central and lateral incisors occupying the midline, the maxillary canine (cuspid) forming a prominent corner of the arch, and the premolars and molars tapering posteriorly on both sides. A translucent maxilla frames the crowns and roots, allowing the nasal cavity to appear superior to the hard palate and the paired maxillary sinuses (antra) to sit superolateral to the posterior teeth. The alveolar process surrounds the tooth-bearing segment, with the anterior nasal spine and the piriform aperture suggested in the midline. Symmetry is emphasized. That bone to tooth relationship is the teaching point.
