Description
Sagittal section through the female pelvis centers on the anterior vaginal wall, where the urethral carina forms a longitudinal mucosal ridge running parallel to the urethra. Anterior to the vaginal lumen, the urethra tracks inferiorly toward the external urethral orifice, while the bladder neck lies superior and slightly anterior in continuity with it. Posterior and superior to the vagina, the cervix and uterus align along the uterovaginal axis, clarifying how the upper vagina relates to the lower uterine segment. Midline relationships are emphasized. Teaching the urethral carina matters because it is a reliable surface landmark for the urethra during pelvic examination and anterior vaginal wall procedures.
