Description
The fetus lies curled in a flexed attitude within the amniotic cavity, head presenting toward the lower right of the frame with the trunk arched and the limbs drawn tightly against the chest. One hand rests near the mouth and the opposite foot is visible above the shoulder, illustrating the compact posture typical of the late second trimester. The umbilical cord emerges from the anterior abdominal wall and spirals toward its insertion on the fetal surface of the placenta, with the paired umbilical arteries and single umbilical vein distinguishable by colour along its twisted course.
