Dominating the lateral aspect of the cardiac silhouette, the left ventricle (ventriculus sinister) occupies the posteroinferior portion of the heart and forms most of the apex. From this side-on perspective, its thick myocardium is contrasted with the thinner right ventricular free wall positioned more anterolaterally, while the interventricular septum slopes obliquely between the two chambers. Superior to the ventricular mass, the left atrium lies more posterior, and the left ventricular outflow tract courses cranially toward the aortic root. Thick wall. Small cavity.
