Description
Viewed from a superior perspective, the right lung’s segmental airway anatomy is centered on the medial segmental bronchus as it courses inferolaterally from the lobar bronchus and divides into smaller segmental and subsegmental branches. Branch points are oriented toward the medial (mediastinal) surface, with distal bronchi tapering as they enter the pulmonary lobules. Proximal airway walls appear thicker and more cylindrical, while the peripheral arborization becomes finer and more numerous. Spatially, the branching pattern reads as a medial-to-lateral fan from the segmental origin toward the peripheral parenchyma. Superior orientation matters when you need to teach or plan anatomy in the same plane used for bronchoscopy navigation, endobronchial procedures, or CT correlation at the level of the lobar and segmental bronchi.
