Viewed from a superior vantage, the right diaphragmatic surface of the male liver forms a smooth convex dome that rises to meet the undersurface of the right hemidiaphragm. The bare area is positioned posteriosuperiorly, bounded by the anterior and posterior layers of the coronary ligament, while the right triangular ligament marks the more lateral attachment toward the costal margin. Medially, the hepatic surface approaches the region of the central tendon of the diaphragm near the caval opening, where the superior aspect of the inferior vena cava lies in close apposition.
