Description
Anterior torso and upper limb anatomy is rendered with the superficial lymphatic network traced along the male arm toward the axilla. Collecting vessels accompany the superficial veins, with lateral channels coursing proximally along the cephalic vein toward the deltopectoral groove and apical axillary nodes, while medial channels track with the basilic vein along the medial bicipital groove toward the cubital fossa and then the humeral (lateral) axillary node group. Overlying musculature, including pectoralis major, deltoid, and biceps brachii, provides surface landmarks, and the lymphatic channels sit superficial to the deep fascia while converging superiorly into the axillary basin. The venous network is prominent. So are the draining pathways. This front-facing arrangement matters because superficial lymphatics define the first echelon nodes for much of the upper limb and anterior thoracic wall, a pattern clinicians rely on when evaluating axillary lymphadenopathy, cellulitis-related lymphangitis, or posttraumatic swelling. The relationship to the cephalic and basilic veins also mirrors pathways used in practice, such as tracing infection spread from the hand and forearm or anticipating postoperative lymphedema after axillary node dissection in breast surgery, where disruption of superficial collectors can produce persistent arm edema and heaviness.
