Anteriorly, the left pulmonary artery is traced as it courses laterally from the pulmonary trunk and gives off the anterior segmental artery to the upper lobe (A3). The vessel runs anterolaterally toward the bronchopulmonary segment, maintaining the typical relationship of pulmonary arteries traveling with segmental bronchi, while the accompanying pulmonary veins lie more intersegmentally and drain toward the left atrium. Superior to the cardiac silhouette, the trachea bifurcates into the main bronchi, providing a midline airway landmark above the great vessels. Color convention distinguishes arterial from venous channels.
