Description

Rendered in anterior anatomical position, an adult female figure is partially degloved to expose the deep and superficial musculature of the trunk and limbs, with striated fiber directions visible across the pectoralis major, rectus abdominis, external oblique, and serratus anterior as they wrap from the thoracic wall toward the humerus and costal margins. Superiorly, the deltoid caps the shoulder lateral to the clavicle and acromion, while the biceps brachii sits anterior to the humerus with the triceps brachii posteriorly defining the arm’s extensor compartment. Inferiorly, the iliopsoas and gluteal region transition into the quadriceps femoris on the anterior thigh and the tibialis anterior along the shin, with tendons and selected skeletal elements of the hands and feet providing bony contrast at the distal extremities. Mammary tissue is represented with glandular lobules overlying the pectoral fascia. Orientation is clear. Fiber direction matters here. You can track how the external oblique and rectus sheath relate to the linea alba and inguinal region, a setup for understanding incisions, hernia repair, and why neurovascular planes (intercostal nerves, iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerves) are vulnerable during abdominal wall approaches. The inclusion of the breast over the pectoralis major also supports teaching surgical planes for mastectomy and reconstruction, where pectoral fascia integrity and the choice of myocutaneous flaps intersect with myology. Use this figure in gross anatomy and kinesiology courses to teach regional muscle groups, actions, and surface palpation landmarks, or in medical publishing when a full-body female myology plate is needed for chapters on movement science, abdominal wall surgery, or breast procedures. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
