Description
Arising from the distal femoral artery, the descending genicular artery courses inferomedially along the anteromedial aspect of the knee, running deep to sartorius as it approaches the medial femoral condyle. An anterior perspective places it superficial to the femur and medial to the patella, with its terminal branches tracking toward the vastus medialis obliquus and the medial patellar retinaculum. Adjacent venous channels accompany the artery in blue, converging proximally toward the femoral venous system while smaller arterioles contribute to the peripatellar network.
