Description
Across the dorsolateral midfoot, the dorsal cuneocuboid ligament spans the dorsal aspect of the cuneocuboid joint, bridging the cuboid laterally to the adjacent cuneiform (most often the lateral cuneiform) medially. The band sits distal to the talus and calcaneus and proximal to the bases of the fourth and fifth metatarsals, blending with the dorsal joint capsule and neighboring dorsal tarsal ligaments. Proximally, the tibia and fibula frame the talocrural joint, while the subtalar articulation lies inferior to the talus, establishing the hindfoot alignment that feeds load into the midtarsal complex. Dorsal cuneocuboid support matters when you are teaching or treating lateral column stability and midfoot sprain patterns, because pain at the dorsolateral midfoot can arise from capsuloligamentous injury around the calcaneocuboid and cuneocuboid joints rather than from the ankle proper.
