Description
Sectioned calvarium exposes the endocranial surface of the adult male skull with the dura mater lining the cranial cavity. Blue venous channels trace the middle meningeal vein as it courses on the inner table, running in close company with the middle meningeal artery within the dural layer, then draining toward adjacent dural venous sinuses along the cranial vault. Superior to the intact facial skeleton, the vessel arborization fans laterally from the region of the sphenoid and temporal bones across the parietal dura. Grooves and branching patterns follow the bony contour. Spatially, this relationship matters because meningeal vessels are tethered between dura and bone, so a temporal bone fracture at the pterion can shear the middle meningeal artery while nearby veins and sinus connections shape the pattern of accompanying hemorrhage.
