Description
Seen in lateral profile, the male cranium is defined by the frontal squama anteriorly, the parietal bone superiorly, the squamous temporal bone at the sidewall, and the occipital bone posteriorly, with the coronal and lambdoid sutures demarcating their margins. Inferior to the temporal bone, the mandible sits depressed at the temporomandibular joint, separating the mandibular dental arch from the maxillary teeth and exposing the occlusal surfaces. The zygomatic bone forms the lateral cheek prominence and contributes to the lateral orbital rim, while the maxilla and nasal bones outline the midface anterior to the pterygoid region.
