Description
Anterior thoracic anatomy is rendered in a semi-transparent Asian adult male, with the heart centered in the middle mediastinum between the lungs and resting superior to the diaphragm. The myocardium is emphasized, with the right and left ventricular walls forming the inferior and leftward bulk of the cardiac silhouette, while the right and left atrial appendages project anterosuperiorly at the base of the heart. Superiorly, the trachea descends in the midline and the esophagus tracks posterior to the heart toward the upper abdomen, giving clear depth cues for where the heart sits relative to the airway and foregut.
