Description
Lateral profile of an adult female skull is presented with the calvaria and facial skeleton in clear alignment, and the mandible differentiated in blue against the cranial bones. Superiorly, the frontal, parietal, and occipital bones form the cranial vault, while anteriorly the nasal bone and maxilla frame the midface and the zygomatic bone projects laterally as the cheek prominence. Posteroinferiorly, the mandibular condyle sits just anterior to the external acoustic meatus of the temporal bone, forming the temporomandibular joint, and the mandibular body sweeps forward to the mental region. Inferior to the skull base, the upper cervical vertebrae appear in continuity with the occiput, with the hyoid bone partially visible beneath the mandibular angle in the suprahyoid region.
