Over the anterior thorax of an adult male, the paired pectoralis minor muscles appear as thin, triangular slips deep to pectoralis major, spanning from the anterior surfaces of ribs 3 to 5 near their costal cartilages to the medial border and superior surface of the coracoid process of the scapula. Their fibers run superolaterally, lying lateral to the sternum and costal margins and anterior to the ribs, while remaining medial and inferior to the coracoid process as it projects from the scapular neck. A transparent muscle overlay against the visible skeleton orients the muscle to the rib cage, clavicles, scapulae, and proximal humeri in anatomical position. Deep placement is the point.
