Seen from the anterior aspect of an adult male upper limb, the paired radial veins (venae comitantes of the radial artery) course along the lateral (radial) forearm, flanking the radial artery from the distal wrist toward the cubital fossa. Proximally, they converge into the deep venous network of the elbow and continue toward the brachial veins as they pass medial to the biceps brachii tendon and deep to the lacertus fibrosus. Skeletal landmarks include the humerus, radius, ulna, and the carpal, metacarpal, and phalangeal bones, with the arterial tree (brachial, radial, and ulnar arteries) and accompanying nerves arranged in their expected neurovascular bundles. Anterior presentation of the deep radial venous system matters because these vessels are often encountered indirectly, as paired channels tightly associated with the radial artery where pulsation can obscure venous flow on ultrasound and where arterial puncture can complicate venous access attempts. This angle also supports teaching of proximal continuity, how the venae comitantes participate in the deep venous return during forearm muscle pump activity, and where perforating connections link deep and superficial pathways. It is the practical map for differentiating superficial cephalic drainage from true deep venous outflow at the lateral forearm and elbow.
