Description
Anterior frontal presentation centers the female thoracic cage, with ribs (costae) curving laterally from the thoracic vertebrae to meet the sternum through costal cartilages. Superior ribs 1 to 7 attach directly to the manubrium and body of the sternum, while ribs 8 to 10 converge inferiorly into the costal arch (costal margin) to form the false ribs. Ribs 11 and 12 remain floating, ending in the posterolateral abdominal wall without anterior articulation. Color emphasis isolates the rib cage against the rest of the axial and appendicular skeleton, so the relationship between the sternum medially, the ribs laterally, and the vertebral column posteriorly reads immediately.
