Sweeping from the anterior superior iliac spine toward the anteromedial proximal tibia, the sartorius forms a superficial strap that crosses the thigh obliquely just deep to the skin in this medial view of the adult male. Proximally it lies anterior to the iliopsoas region and medial to the tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial tract, then passes over the anterior compartment where rectus femoris and vastus intermedius sit deeper and vastus medialis expands medially toward the patella. Distally the muscle belly becomes a tendon that tracks to the pes anserinus on the medial tibia, anterior to gracilis and semitendinosus, while the patellar ligament anchors centrally from the patella to the tibial tuberosity.
