Description

Oriented in anterior projection, the right lung hilum and mediastinum are arranged to emphasize the superior basal vein of the right lower lobe and its convergence into the right inferior pulmonary vein before entering the left atrium. Segmental venous tributaries from the superior (S6) and adjacent basal segments course centrally through the lower lobe, running in the intersegmental planes and remaining inferior to the right pulmonary artery while tracking toward the posterior aspect of the atrium. Nearby, the right main bronchus and bronchus intermedius sit medial and slightly posterior to the pulmonary vessels, with the right lower lobe bronchus lying posterior to the venous outflow at the hilum. Color coding separates oxygenated pulmonary veins from the deoxygenated pulmonary arterial tree and systemic great vessels, while the trachea and carina appear superior to the cardiac base.
