Oriented to the plantar aspect, the male talus is presented from below, centering the sulcus tali as it runs obliquely between the anterior and posterior calcaneal articular facets on the inferior surface. Posteriorly and laterally, the posterior calcaneal facet curves to meet the superior surface of the calcaneus at the posterior subtalar joint, while the more anterior facet sits closer to the talar head, separated by the deep groove that contributes to the sinus tarsi. Medially, the contour transitions toward the region adjacent to the sustentaculum tali, and laterally the surface relates to the tarsal canal. Bone-only clarity. This inferior view matters because the sulcus tali is not just a topographic depression, it is the bony half of the sinus tarsi and a key landmark when teaching subtalar joint anatomy and inversion-eversion mechanics.
