Description
Centered behind the upper sternum, the thymus is traced as a bilobed soft-tissue silhouette in the anterior superior mediastinum, with right and left lobes flanking the midline just inferior to the thoracic inlet. Radiographic landmarks frame the gland: clavicles and first ribs superiorly, the manubrium anteriorly, and the tracheal air column and great-vessel contours (brachiocephalic veins and proximal superior vena cava) posterior and slightly rightward. The animation steps through sequential emphasis, first establishing the chest X-ray field, then isolating the thymic shadow relative to the cardiac silhouette and mediastinal lines. Subtle left-right asymmetry is indicated as the lobes taper inferiorly toward the pericardium.
