Description
Centered in the anterior superior mediastinum, the female thymus appears as a bilobed gland lying posterior to the manubrium and anterior to the pericardium, with the right and left lobes flanking the midline above the great vessels. The animation tracks its external contour first, then steps through the capsule and connective tissue septa as they partition the parenchyma into lobules. A corticomedullary pattern emerges within each lobule, with darker peripheral cortex and paler medulla, and the sequence briefly calls out medullary Hassall corpuscles as a landmark of thymic histology. Orientation remains consistent, so superior-inferior relationships to the lower neck and upper mediastinum stay readable as the layers build.
