Description
Presented in lateral profile, the adult female skull and upper cervical spine are rendered with the dentition highlighted in blue, bringing the maxillary and mandibular dental arches into clear relief against the cranial sutures. Posteriorly, the molars and premolars sit within the alveolar processes of the maxilla and mandible, with the crowns defined by enamel overlying dentine, while the mandibular body extends anteriorly toward the symphysis. Superior to the mandibular ramus, the temporomandibular joint region lies just anterior to the external acoustic meatus, and inferiorly the occipital bone transitions to the atlas (C1) and axis (C2) in the cervical vertebrae. Clear landmarks. A lateral odontology view like this is where you can teach occlusal relationships without the visual noise of a full facial rendering, since the posterior teeth, mandibular angle, and condylar position can be related directly to the cranial base and the cervical posture beneath it. Clinically, it supports discussion of common patterns such as caries and restorative planning in molars and premolars, periodontal bone loss along the posterior alveolar crest, and third molar impaction mechanics relative to the ascending ramus, even when the third molar itself is not emphasized.
