Description
Framed in lateral profile, the female skull is rendered with the complete permanent dentition highlighted in blue within the maxilla superiorly and the mandible inferiorly. Individual crowns line the alveolar processes, with incisors most anterior, canines at the corners of the dental arch, and premolars and molars positioned progressively posterior toward the mandibular ramus and the maxillary tuberosity. Enamel and underlying dentine are implied at the crown level, while the relationship of the teeth to the maxillary sinus region and the mandibular body is readable through the surrounding craniofacial contours. The craniovertebral junction and upper cervical vertebrae sit inferior and posterior to the occipital bone. A strict side view is the workhorse for teaching occlusion and overjet, and it clarifies how the maxillary teeth typically sit slightly anterior to the mandibular teeth in normal intercuspation. This perspective also supports clinical discussions of third molar position relative to the posterior mandible, and why mandibular molar roots can approximate the inferior alveolar canal in surgical extraction planning even when only external landmarks are being reviewed. Simple relationships matter. They guide interpretation of dental radiographs and cephalometric analysis.
