Description
Centered in a lateral skull view, the female mandible is isolated in blue against the surrounding craniofacial skeleton. The mandibular body carries the alveolar part with the lower dentition, then sweeps posteriorly into the angle and ascending ramus, which terminates superiorly at the coronoid process anteriorly and the condylar process posteriorly for the temporomandibular joint. Superior to the mandible, the maxilla and its upper teeth frame the occlusal relationship; posterior-inferiorly, the upper cervical vertebrae and part of the thoracic inlet (clavicle and upper ribs) provide neck alignment context. Sutural lines across the calvaria remain visible as surface landmarks.
