Description
Arising from the supraspinous and posterior scapular region, the suprascapular vein tracks medially toward the root of the neck, coursing in the posterior cervical triangle deep to the superficial fascia and adjacent to the suprascapular artery and suprascapular nerve. A posterior perspective also brings the scapula, lateral clavicle, proximal humerus, and the glenohumeral joint into view, with the vessel relationships framed against the upper ribs and posterior thoracic wall. Proximally, the venous channel converges toward the subclavian vein, while the brachial vessels continue distally along the medial aspect of the upper arm. For teaching and procedural planning, this is a clean look at how the suprascapular vein bridges the scapular venous network and the central venous system at the thoracic outlet. That matters in posterior triangle dissections and in operations around the clavicle and supraclavicular fossa, where venous injury can complicate exposure and where anatomy is distorted by trauma, lymph node dissection, or catheter-related thrombosis of the subclavian vein. The view also helps clarify the regional crowding that accompanies suprascapular nerve entrapment at the suprascapular notch or spinoglenoid notch, even when the clinical focus is neurologic rather than vascular.
