Description
Viewed from superior, the T9 vertebra is centered on the vertebral body anteriorly, with the vertebral foramen immediately posterior to it and bounded laterally by stout pedicles that bridge into the laminae. Laterally, the transverse processes project from the vertebral arch, while posteriorly the spinous process extends from the midline where the laminae meet. Along the posterolateral margins, the superior articular processes and their facet surfaces are positioned to articulate with T8, and the superior demifacets on the vertebral body mark the costovertebral contact for the head of the ninth rib. This superior perspective matters because T9 sits in the mid to lower thoracic spine where thoracic kyphosis, rib-bearing anatomy, and the transition toward the thoracolumbar junction begin to influence biomechanics and surgical planning.
