Description
Seen from an anterior anterolateral angle, the left lower limb is rendered with the pelvis, femur, patella, tibia, fibula, and the bones of the foot providing deep landmarks for the superficial venous map. The lesser saphenous vein (small saphenous vein) is traced distally along the lateral aspect of the ankle, then curving posteriorly around the lateral malleolus before ascending toward the posterior calf. Deep companion vessels are suggested alongside the tibia and fibula, with the femoral artery and its distal continuations providing orientation against the venous course. Bony relationships stay clear. For teaching, that lateral malleolar turn matters. The small saphenous vein originates from the lateral end of the dorsal venous arch and typically continues as a marginal vein along the lateral foot, a pathway that becomes clinically relevant when mapping superficial venous reflux or planning endovenous ablation, because the vein’s proximal termination and its connection to the popliteal vein can vary.
