Description
Anteriorly, the paired second ribs (costae II) are emphasized as they sweep inferolaterally from the posterior thoracic wall toward the sternum, curving around the upper thorax to meet their costal cartilages at the level of the sternal angle. Medially, the cartilago costalis II articulates with the sternum at the manubriosternal junction, creating the palpable landmark that divides the manubrium superiorly from the sternal body inferiorly.
