Description
Centered in the thoracic spine, the T10 vertebra is presented from an anterior perspective with the vertebral body dominant in the foreground and the vertebral arch receding posteriorly around the vertebral foramen. Lateral to the body, the pedicles lead into the transverse processes, while the superior and inferior articular processes sit posterolaterally for zygapophyseal joint formation with T9 and T11. A single, complete superior costal facet is shown on each side of the vertebral body, positioned superolaterally near the vertebral endplate rather than split into demi-facets as in the mid-thoracic levels. Color-highlighted articular surfaces clarify the joint geometry at a glance. T10 occupies a transition zone where rib articulation patterns change and where anatomy teaching often trips learners, because it commonly bears a full superior costal facet for the head of rib 10, with the inferior demi-facet frequently absent. That distinction matters in spine surgery and radiology when counting levels at the thoracolumbar junction, and it becomes practical during posterior approaches such as pedicle screw placement, where correct level identification reduces wrong-level instrumentation and helps anticipate the relationship of rib heads to the vertebral body.
