Description
Anteriorly oriented brain anatomy is rendered to emphasize ventricular roof meninges and the basal arterial circle. A double fold of pia mater forming the tela choroidea is positioned at the superior aspect of the third ventricle and along the medial margins of the lateral ventricles, where it invaginates with ependyma to give rise to the choroid plexus. Inferior to this ventricular complex, the Circle of Willis is shown on the ventral surface of the diencephalon, with the anterior cerebral arteries and anterior communicating artery lying anteromedial, the internal carotid arteries lateral, and the posterior communicating and posterior cerebral arteries completing the ring posterolaterally; the optic chiasm sits immediately inferior and anterior to the infundibular region. Red arterial coloration contrasts with the pial folds. Orientation is clear. This combination of tela choroidea and Circle of Willis anatomy matters when you need to connect CSF production to its vascular substrate and to the surgical corridors used to access the third ventricle. Endoscopic third ventriculostomy, transcallosal-transventricular approaches, and microsurgical management of intraventricular tumors all hinge on respecting the choroid plexus and its arterial supply (anterior and posterior choroidal arteries), where bleeding can rapidly obscure the field. Aneurysms of the anterior communicating artery or internal carotid artery often present with subarachnoid hemorrhage near the optic apparatus, and this anterior perspective helps anchor the relationship between basal cistern vessels and adjacent midline structures. Neuroanatomy and neurosurgery teaching blocks use this view to pair ventricular roof membranes with the arterial polygon in one frame, useful for exam figures, operative anatomy primers, and board-style questions on aneurysm location and CSF physiology. Medical publishers and stroke education materials can also employ it when explaining collateral flow in the Circle of Willis alongside choroid plexus perfusion and intraventricular hemorrhage patterns.
