Description
Anteriorly oriented, dorsal foot anatomy is presented with emphasis on the fibrous articular capsules spanning the ankle and midfoot through the forefoot. The distal tibia and fibula frame the talus at the talocrural (ankle) joint, while the capsules continue distally over the talonavicular and calcaneocuboid joints and across the cuneonavicular and intercuneiform articulations. Metatarsals I to V and the phalanges are shown in line distally, with capsular outlines at the tarsometatarsal (Lisfranc) joints and metatarsophalangeal joints, and selected dorsal intrinsic or tendon units rendered in blue superficial to the joint lines. This view matters when you need to separate true capsular pathology from periarticular tendon pain on the dorsum of the foot, a common diagnostic pitfall in midfoot arthritis and post-traumatic stiffness.
