Description
Curving laterally from apex to base, the costal (parietal) surface of a lung is rendered as a smooth convex facies that conforms to the inner contour of the thoracic cage. Along its anterosuperior margin, the parietal pleura and costal pleura form the pleural interface against the ribs and intercostal spaces, while the inferior border sweeps toward the diaphragmatic surface at the costophrenic recess. Gentle costal imprints from adjacent ribs are suggested as shallow impressions oriented obliquely, tracking the rib arc from posterior to anterior. No clutter. Just the pleural-facing lung.
