Description
A fetus at 39 weeks of gestation is shown in a flexed, head-down attitude inside the uterine cavity, filling nearly the whole available space as term approaches. The head is well formed with visible scalp hair and a clearly modelled external ear, the chin rests toward the chest, and the arms are folded so that the hands lie close to the face. The lower limbs are drawn up with the feet crossed near the body, and the toes and fingers are fully differentiated with subcutaneous fat giving the limbs their rounded, smooth term contour.
