Description
Anteriorly oriented sectioning through the heart opens the left ventricle to expose the trabecular part, where coarse trabeculae carneae line the chamber wall and transition superiorly into the smoother inflow and outflow regions. Papillary muscles arise from the ventricular myocardium and project into the cavity, their chordae tendineae coursing superiorly toward the mitral valve leaflets at the atrioventricular junction.
