Description
Arising from the common palmar digital arteries in the palm, the proper palmar digital arteries course distally along the medial and lateral margins of each digit on the anterior (palmar) aspect, paired on either side of the phalanges and running deep to the skin but superficial to the phalangeal shafts. Proximally, their origin is understood in relation to the superficial palmar arch and the palmar aponeurosis, while distally they approach the pulp of the distal phalanx near the fingertip. Flexor tendons in the digital sheath and the fibrous flexor pulleys sit immediately deep to this vascular bundle, and lumbricals and interossei occupy the deeper planes between the metacarpals. Spatially, each proper digital artery tracks with its corresponding proper digital nerve along the digit’s neurovascular plane. Close quarters anatomy.
