Description
Shown in a translucent, radiographic style, the distal tibia and fibula frame the ankle mortise superior to the clustered tarsals, with the talus seated beneath the tibial plafond and the calcaneus positioned posterior and inferior to it. Distal to the midfoot, the metatarsals diverge anteriorly toward the segmented proximal, middle, and distal phalanges of the toes, forming the osseous architecture of the pes. Superimposed neural pathways in green track from the lower leg into the ankle and across the dorsum and plantar aspect, consistent with the course and branching of the tibial and common fibular (peroneal) nerves into plantar and dorsal digital distributions. Orientation is clear. Bones and nerves share the field. Linking skeletal landmarks to nerve trajectories is where this plate earns its keep: the tarsal tunnel region posterior to the medial malleolus becomes intuitive when you can relate the tibia, talus, and calcaneus to the tibial nerve before it divides into the medial and lateral plantar nerves.
