Description
Seen from the anterior aspect, the third cervical vertebra (C3) sits superior to C4 and inferior to C2, with the vertebral body forming the midline column and the uncinate processes rising along its superolateral margins toward the uncovertebral joints. Laterally, the transverse processes project to either side and frame the transverse foramina, landmarks for the vertebral artery as it typically ascends from C6 toward the atlas. Superior and inferior articular processes are oriented to support gliding at the zygapophysial joints while maintaining cervical lordosis. Bone contours matter here. An anterior perspective helps you appreciate why mid cervical segments are prone to radicular symptoms when disc height is lost or osteophytes develop.
