Description
Positioned in a posterior view, the male fifth thoracic vertebra (T5) is isolated within the mid-thoracic stack, with its long spinous process projecting inferiorly and overlapping the laminae of the vertebra below. Lateral to the spinous process, paired laminae converge toward the midline, while the transverse processes extend posterolaterally from the vertebral arch. Superior and inferior articular processes sit at the pedicle-lamina junction, bracketing the zygapophyseal (facet) joints above and below; the vertebral body lies anterior to the vertebral foramen, largely obscured from this angle. A blue highlight calls out T5 against adjacent thoracic vertebrae for level-specific orientation. That steep, caudally angled thoracic spinous process matters clinically because the posterior midline surface landmark you palpate does not sit directly over the corresponding vertebral body.
