Description
Posterior thoracic anatomy is centered on the thoracic vertebrae with paired ribs radiating laterally from the transverse processes. At each costotransverse joint, the lateral costotransverse ligament forms a firm band running from the nonarticular part of the rib tubercle toward the tip of the corresponding transverse process, positioned lateral to the intertransverse region and deep to the intrinsic back musculature. Intercostal muscles occupy the intercostal spaces laterally, while costal cartilages are visible anteriorly as blue continuations of the bony ribs. Dense fibers, clearly oriented.
