Description
Arterial anatomy of the male head is rendered in a lateral view, with the cerebral hemispheres shown by their gyri and sulci and a vascular tree draped across the cortical surface. Superficial cortical branches course over the convexity and give off penetrating arterioles that descend inferiorly into the parenchyma toward deep capillary beds. Inferiorly, the brainstem transitions into the upper cervical cord region, and adjacent cranial nerve rootlets emerge from the pontomedullary area, positioned anterolateral to the medulla and posterior to the clivus in anatomic terms. Clinical teaching often hinges on correlating named arterial territories with neurologic deficits, and a side-on cerebral view makes those territories intuitive. Cortical branches supplying the lateral frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes map closely to middle cerebral artery distribution, the common setting for large-vessel ischemic stroke with contralateral face and arm weakness and aphasia in the dominant hemisphere. Small penetrating arterioles matter too. Lacunar infarcts from lipohyalinosis in these vessels produce classic pure motor or pure sensory syndromes, and this is the scale at which vascular risk factors translate into tissue loss. Neuroscience and neuroanatomy courses can use this asset to pair vascular supply with sulcal landmarks, or to support exam figures on stroke localization, subarachnoid hemorrhage patterns, and collateral circulation concepts.
