Description
Semi-transparent cardiac walls reveal the right and left atria superiorly and the right and left ventricles inferiorly, with the aortic root and pulmonary trunk emerging from the ventricular outflow tracts. Highlighted conduction tissue traces from the sinoatrial node at the superior right atrial wall near the junction with the superior vena cava, across the atria toward the atrioventricular node in the inferior interatrial septum, then into the atrioventricular bundle (bundle of His) piercing the fibrous skeleton. From the proximal interventricular septum, the right and left bundle branches descend toward the apex, where terminal Purkinje fibers fan subendocardially and spread along the ventricular walls toward the papillary muscles and ventricular free walls. Coronary arteries course epicardially over the blue-toned myocardium, providing surface landmarks against the internal electrical pathways. Clear separation of layers. That spatial sequence matters when you need to explain why atrial depolarization precedes ventricular activation and why the interventricular septum is the first ventricular region to depolarize. It also frames common rhythm disorders: ischemia or fibrosis near the AV node can produce varying degrees of AV block, while bundle branch block alters QRS morphology because activation must detour through myocardium instead of rapid Purkinje conduction. Electrophysiology mapping and catheter ablation rely on these anatomic relationships, and the x-ray style transparency helps correlate surface catheter positions with deeper septal structures.
