Proximally within the midfoot, the navicular (tarsal scaphoid) sits medial to the cuboid and anterior to the talar head, forming the medial column between hindfoot and forefoot. Its dorsal surface appears convex, while its anterior margin aligns with the three cuneiforms (medial, intermediate, lateral) through the naviculocuneiform articulations. Joint margins are accentuated to clarify the articular relationships. A superior view of the navicular matters because it links talonavicular motion to medial longitudinal arch mechanics, so small changes in alignment read directly onto gait.
