Description
Centered in the mid-thoracic spine, the sixth thoracic vertebra (T6) is isolated in blue against adjacent vertebrae and pale intervertebral discs, presented in an anterior (ventral) view. The vertebral body dominates the composition, with the superior and inferior endplates forming the cranial and caudal borders of the segment. Just lateral to the vertebral body, the right and left pedicles lead posteriorly toward the vertebral arch, and the transverse processes project laterally, aligning with the thoracic rib-bearing region. Costal facets for rib articulation are implied at the posterolateral margins of the body (demifacets) and on the transverse processes for the corresponding rib tubercle. An anterior view at T6 matters because it anchors level identification in the region where vertebral body height, kyphotic contour, and rib articulations drive both biomechanics and pathology. Mid-thoracic compression fractures often present as anterior vertebral body wedging, so this orientation helps explain why kyphosis increases and why endplate integrity matters for adjacent disc loading.
