Description
Framed in a full-body posterior view under the skin of an adult male, the triceps brachii occupies the posterior compartment of the arm, spanning from the scapula and posterior humerus to the proximal ulna. The long head lies medially and arises from the infraglenoid tubercle, while the lateral and medial heads originate from the posterior humeral shaft on either side of the radial groove and converge distally. Their common tendon narrows toward the elbow, inserting on the olecranon process, just posterior to the trochlear notch. Bony landmarks remain readable behind the musculature, including the occipital bone, vertebral column, ribs, scapular spines, sacrum, and pelvis. Posterior orientation matters here because it matches both surface anatomy and most clinical exposure of the elbow extensor mechanism, letting you correlate the visible “horseshoe” contour of the arm to the underlying heads and tendon.
