Description

Anterior lower limbs are rendered with the knee region centered, highlighting the superficial and deep venous pathways converging around the patella and femorotibial joint line. Medially, the great saphenous vein tracks superiorly along the tibia toward the femoral vein, while laterally the small saphenous system and its tributaries approach the popliteal region, hinted beneath the joint as the veins pass posteriorly. Across the anterior knee, a prepatellar venous plexus (with paired venules and communicating channels) bridges medial and lateral superficial networks, with perforating veins connecting toward the anterior tibial venae comitantes more distally. Symmetric right and left legs allow side-by-side comparison of caliber and branching. Clinically, the anterior knee is where superficial venous networks are commonly confused with deeper pathology on exam and where communications with the popliteal system matter for reflux patterns.
