Description
Running from the distal extremities toward the thorax, the superficial and deep venous networks are rendered in blue within a transparent adult female body outline, converging centrally on the heart. In the upper limb, digital venules and metacarpal veins drain proximally into the cephalic and basilic veins, with deeper channels accompanying the radial and ulnar arteries before forming the axillary vein. Inferiorly, dorsal venous arches of the foot feed the great and small saphenous veins and the deep tibial system, which unite as the popliteal vein and continue as the femoral vein to the external iliac vein; all pathways ultimately collect into the superior and inferior venae cavae at the right atrium. Clear inflow geometry. Understanding this whole-body venous map matters when you need to reconcile surface landmarks with central return, since many clinically relevant complications travel along these same conduits. The cephalic, basilic, and median cubital veins anchor routine phlebotomy and peripheral IV access, while the deep femoral and iliac segments are the proximal source for most pulmonary emboli arising from lower-extremity deep vein thrombosis.
